Alisa Ghura is a rising junior in the College of Arts and Sciences double majoring in Urban Studies and Political Science. She was raised in Washington, D.C. but draws her family roots back to Mauritius, a small island off the East coast of South Africa. At Penn, Alisa is a Civic Scholar, serves on the board of the Penn Mock Trial Team, works for Penn Leads the Vote, and is the Vice Chair of the Netter Center Student Advisory Board, and does political science research as a PORES fellow. She was also recently selected to serve as Penn’s 2021-2022 Newman Civic Fellow. This past year, Alisa piloted a writing program at Paul Robeson High School, which she and two other Penn students proposed while interning with the Penn Program for Public Service last year. In the Fall, Alisa is excited to continue to develop her writing program with the support of the Newman Civic Fellow network and to direct her first mock trial tournament. Over the summer, Alisa looks forward to doing policy research while interning with the Brookings Institution on their Race, Prosperity, and Inclusion Initiative.
