Add your voice to an intergenerational dialogue on the state of our nation. Come together with fellow Penn students and alumni.
  • Discuss key issues facing our divided nation.
  • Structured, with ground rules and experienced moderators.
  • Not a debate, a dialogue.
  • The more diversity of opinion around the “table” the better the experience.
What participants are saying:

Best political discussion I ever had.

I loved that it brought people from different backgrounds together to experience something incredibly meaningful.

I loved the ground rules. I am drawn to replicate this in spaces that I lead.

Sponsored by the Gamba Family Red and Blue Exchange, an initiative of the SNF Paideia Program at the University of Pennsylvania. Made possible by the Gamba Family and the Stavros Niarchos Foundation. Event designed and led by the PA Project for Civic Engagement. Co-hosted with Penn Alumni.

Polarization and the Media in American Politics: A Conversation with Michael Smerconish

Polarization and the Media in American Politics: A Conversation with Michael Smerconish Michael Smerconish is one of the nation’s most visible media personalities, with a daily radio show on Sirius/XM and a Saturday CNN show. He also provides analysis on CNN for big events, writes columns and books, and more. Maybe most uniquely: Michael is one of the few voices in the media who can’t be pigeonholed ideologically. He’ll be fielding questions on what it’s like to be somewhere in the center in our increasingly ideological media, how the media shapes our politics, what we can do to build a media that better serves the public, and whether prominent figures should be blacklisted from the media if they can’t tell the truth. We’ll also cover the state of politics and whether our two party system is capable of representing Americans like him in 2023. Michael will also field questions from the audience.Learn More
