Career Industry and Networking Series – Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion

Register

Join Penn Alumni and partners for a virtual Career Industry and Networking Series focused on Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion on Wednesday, March 3rd at 7:00 PM ET.

Work in Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) has existed since the 1960s, evolving into different approaches and philosophies. In its earlier iterations, DEI practices were limited to compliance-oriented content for human resources practices and training. More recently, however, DEI work has become a vocation of its own focusing on promoting understanding and appreciation of all types of diversity to enhance business performance. Outside of the individual organization, DEI exists in a range of professional services, dedicated to advocacy for the advancement of equity and inclusion for society at large. In this discussion, you will hear from DEI professionals who serve in various capacities to elevate and realize diversity, equity, and inclusion in the workplace and beyond. Our talk will be composed of a moderated discussion, a Q&A segment with the audience, followed by optional breakout networking sessions with our speakers.

Polarization and the Media in American Politics: A Conversation with Michael Smerconish

Polarization and the Media in American Politics: A Conversation with Michael Smerconish Michael Smerconish is one of the nation’s most visible media personalities, with a daily radio show on Sirius/XM and a Saturday CNN show. He also provides analysis on CNN for big events, writes columns and books, and more. Maybe most uniquely: Michael is one of the few voices in the media who can’t be pigeonholed ideologically. He’ll be fielding questions on what it’s like to be somewhere in the center in our increasingly ideological media, how the media shapes our politics, what we can do to build a media that better serves the public, and whether prominent figures should be blacklisted from the media if they can’t tell the truth. We’ll also cover the state of politics and whether our two party system is capable of representing Americans like him in 2023. Michael will also field questions from the audience.Learn More
