Jesse is a student in the College of Arts and Sciences from Towson, Maryland, pursuing a double major in Earth & Environmental Science and Political Science. Passionate about the intersection of policy and environmental issues, he explores how science can inform effective sustainability and conservation policies. He plans to attend law school and hopes to pursue a career in environmental law or government.
He currently works as a research assistant in a biology lab studying coral ecosystems to support marine conservation efforts. He is also an active environmental advocate, promoting sustainable policies with organizations such as the Citizens’ Climate Lobby. At Penn, he is a member of the mock trial team and a campus tour guide with the Kite and Key Society. Additionally, he is an opinion columnist for The Daily Pennsylvanian, where he enjoys engaging in civic dialogue, publishing his opinions, and discussing them with anyone who reads his work.
Jesse was inspired to apply for the SNF Paideia Fellowship after reflecting on his experiences in environmental advocacy. He found the greatest fulfillment in speaking with politicians initially resistant to sustainability efforts by highlighting how such policies can support common goals like energy independence and agricultural prosperity. He is eager to refine his skills in effective dialogue, which will serve him throughout his career!
