Faiza Carey is a first-year in the College of Arts and Sciences, majoring in Sociology while pursuing a dual minor in Urban Real Estate and Development through the Wharton School of Business and the College of Arts and Sciences. As a SNF Paideia Fellow, Faiza is eager to delve into interfaith dialogue and practice in everyday lives and through various religious events at Penn. The SNF Paideia Fellowship presents an invaluable opportunity for Faiza to continue working with Philadelphia’s growing immigrant communities and engage with complex challenges. She is committed to actively fostering a more inclusive city, ensuring equitable access to educational resources. Faiza looks forward to working with Paideia’s intellectual community to deepen her knowledge, while simultaneously utilizing the skills she gains from the Fellowship to advance the significance of intersectionality and diversity across campus.
Beyond her academic pursuits, Faiza continues to explore her interests in community engagement and education. As a board member of PRISM (Programs for Religious, Interfaith, and Spiritual Matters), Faiza strives to work with members of the Penn community to build a diverse faith-based environment. Faiza tutors with the Civic House West Philadelphia Tutoring Project, working to improve the relationships between Penn and the greater Philadelphia communities. She also is a student representative on the Muslim, Arab, and Palestinian Student Advisory group, where she advocates for the enhancement of student life experiences for all on campus. She will participate in the 2024 Penn Program for Public Service Cohort with the Netter Center to cultivate meaningful community service partnerships throughout West Philadelphia.
